The Commis Chef will assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality dishes, ensuring that all food is produced to the highest standards of taste, presentation, and hygiene.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with mise en place including preparing, cutting, and portioning ingredients.
  • Cook and plate dishes as instructed by senior chefs.
  • Support the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient food service.
  • Handle kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness at all times.
  • Follow proper food storage, rotation, and waste management procedures.
  • Maintain food quality and presentation standards as directed by senior chefs.
  • Assist in stock receiving, storage, and monthly inventory counts.
  • Report equipment faults or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and service standards.
  • Matric certificate and a relevant culinary qualification required.
  • Strong time management, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Preference given to candidates residing in Franschhoek or nearby areas.
