The Opportunity: The Pool Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of all swimming pools and related areas on property. This role focuses on routine cleaning, water quality maintenance, equipment checks, and documentation to ensure pools meet health, safety, and appearance standards. The Pool Technician works outdoors in varying conditions and plays a key role in delivering a safe and enjoyable guest and member experience.

 

Duties and Functions

Pool Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Skim leaves, insects, and other floating debris from the pool surface using telescopic poles and nets.
  • Manually vacuum pool floors to remove sediment and debris.
  • Scrub pool tiles and walls with appropriate brushes to prevent algae buildup.
  • Empty and rinse skimmer and pump baskets to ensure unobstructed water flow.
  • Clean, service, or replace cartridge and sand filters as part of routine maintenance.
  • Sweep, hose down, and maintain cleanliness of pool decks and surrounding perimeter areas.

Water Quality and Chemical Handling

  • Perform basic water quality testing, including pH and chlorine levels, and adjust chemical levels as needed, including for salt-based pools.
  • Add pool chemicals according to established safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use dedicated measuring tools for each chemical and never mix chemicals.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemicals added during each cleaning and maintenance cycle.

Inspection, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Inspect pools and equipment for visible leaks, cracks, or malfunctions.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or equipment failures to management immediately.
  • Maintain daily logs of cleaning activities, water clarity, chemical readings, and observations.
  • Support compliance with local health and safety regulations related to pool operations.

 

Qualification Standards

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting equipment or chemical containers weighing up to 50–75 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in high temperatures and varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of pool equipment, water chemistry, and safety procedures, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and safety protocols consistently.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

 

The Pool Technician plays an essential role in maintaining safe, clean, and inviting aquatic facilities for members and guests.
