Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an experienced and professional Duty Manager to join a luxury boutique hotel in Cape Town. This role requires a confident leader with excellent guest service skills and the ability to oversee smooth operations across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience

  • Personally welcome VIP, repeat, and special occasion guests with tailored attention

  • Oversee check-in and check-out processes to ensure efficiency and professionalism

  • Handle guest complaints and feedback, resolving issues promptly and effectively

  • Engage with guests in public areas, building rapport and anticipating needs

  • Ensure guest requests, such as tours, transfers, and reservations, are actioned promptly

Operational Oversight

  • Act as the Manager on Duty (MOD), ensuring seamless operations in the absence of senior management

  • Conduct regular property checks to monitor housekeeping, public areas, and maintenance standards

  • Liaise with Housekeeping to ensure room readiness and efficient turnaround of arrivals and departures

  • Coordinate with Food & Beverage on guest requirements and service standards

  • Ensure front office maintains accurate guest profiles and billing

  • Oversee security protocols and respond swiftly to operational challenges

Team Leadership

  • Lead by example, setting high standards for grooming, etiquette, and service

  • Supervise and support the Front Office team to ensure delivery of hotel standards

  • Motivate, mentor, and train junior staff as required

  • Assist with scheduling to maintain adequate departmental coverage

  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across departments

Administration & Communication

  • Compile accurate Duty Manager reports highlighting guest feedback, incidents, and follow-ups

  • Conduct thorough shift handovers with management and colleagues

  • Monitor cash handling and compliance with financial procedures

  • Track and report guest feedback trends and operational challenges

  • Support compliance with health, safety, and legislative requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a supervisory, assistant manager, or duty manager role within hospitality

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Guest-focused mindset with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
