What’s the job?
In the 24/7 hospitality world, the Director of Engineering leads an experienced team to ensure seamless delivery of critical facility services such as running water and reliable power. Oversees the engineering/maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure thesafety and comfort of hotel guests and employees and to ensure compliance with all Brand and federal, state, and/or local regulatory and inspection requirements. Direct the maintenance of critical building systems and emergency preparedness procedures in support of the Resort’s goals and objectives. Accomplish goals and objectives through subordinates and in collaboration with the management team.
This is the top Engineering position in a full-service, upscale resort with multiple facilities, a number of outlets, and a large number of VIP and key guests. Supervises a staff of maintenance/engineering tradespersons with specialized expertise in a field or discipline such as plumbing, carpentry, etc. Oversees subordinate managers and supervisors in the hotel.
Your-day-to-day
People
• Conducts regular meetings with staff ensuring all meetings are well planned, efficient, and results-oriented.
• Manage staff by recruiting, training, and communicating clear job expectations.
• Monitors employee morale and provide mechanisms for performance feedback and development.
• Set goals, conducts appraisals and reviews of employee performance, discuss existing performance and areas of
improvement, and future career and development goals.
• Ensures, through effective supervision, that all services offered by the department are always available and are
carried out with the utmost efficiency and courtesy as per established guidelines.
Financial
• Monitor budget and control expenses within all areas of the department. Participate in the preparation of the
annual departmental operating budget and Capital plans which support the overall objectives of the hotel.
• Monitor the usage of power and water. Identify and investigate any inconsistencies. Analyze cost-effectiveness of current systems and make recommendations
• Find ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy.
• Ensure the efficiency and operational capacity of all building systems.
Guest Experience
• Direct the routine maintenance of hotel guest rooms, lobbies and facilities (e.g., kitchens, gardens, recreation
areas).
• Ensure repair and maintenance projects do not hinder guest experience.
• Act quickly to resolve emergency issues.
Responsible Business
• Know and uphold Resort Vision, Mission, Policies & Procedures, the Resort’s objectives, quality assurance and safety
programs and standards.
• Champion the IHG Green Engage initiatives for the Resort.
• Inspect hotel regularly to ensure it meets brand and safety standards.
• Prepare and present reports to management.
• Investigate any billing discrepancies.
• Manage vendor contracts, including vendors for various maintenance items, activities, and tasks.
