Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of all companies within Diamond Hotels Management Inc. This includes five major franchised hotels, various land holding and commercial real estate companies, and any future companies associated with Diamond Hotels Management Inc. You will support planning, controlling, reporting, and measuring financial information and assets. The role includes producing and analyzing financial data and presenting reports to management to support informed decision-making and forecasting.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct monthly analytical reviews and reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and alignment between subsidiary ledgers and the general ledger.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis comparing actual financial performance against budgeted figures, identifying key drivers and trends.
  • Coordinate the preparation of comprehensive year-end audit working papers, including documentation of assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate monthly financial statements and internal reports, following review and approval by the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Assist in the development of year-end comparative financial statements and supporting schedules, contributing to the preparation of the annual financial report.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation and filing of income statements, ensuring compliance with internal and external reporting standards.
  • Approve and manage the processing of revenue, expenditures, departmental budgets, ledger entries, and account maintenance activities.
  • Conduct periodic audits of financial policies and procedures across all divisions to ensure consistency, compliance, and operational integrity.
  • Supervise payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash receipt functions, providing guidance and support to team members as needed.
  • Monitor daily cash flow requirements and prepare monthly cash forecasts to support effective liquidity management.
  • Develop and maintain detailed manuals documenting accounting procedures, policies, and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead the implementation of enhanced procedures to increase operational efficiency.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, including assigning tasks, reviewing work, identifying training needs, and conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Support the budgeting process by developing working papers, collecting and analyzing historical financial data, and preparing departmental budget templates.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of budget presentations to ownership, ensuring clarity and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Maintain financial security by researching and resolving discrepancies, verifying documentation, and ensuring adherence to internal controls and data backup protocols.
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee the administration of bank accounts, including account setup, maintenance, and transaction oversight.
  • Promote and support a workplace culture that values equity, diversity, inclusion, and indigeneity, ensuring these principles are reflected in financial practices and team collaboration.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the evolving needs of the organization.

         

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA designation is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting rules, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Hospitality industry experience is an asset
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures
