About the Position

The Caretaker lives on site in the dormitory facility on campus and will be available to guests for support and as a resource during their stay in the dormitories. This position also performs regular campus security checks. 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Customer Service: Greet and welcome incoming guests to the campus and assist with the check in and orientation process. This may also include preparation and distribution of name tags and collecting emergency contact information. Giving a dormitory tour to include emergency exits, supply locations, common areas and dorm assignments. Explanation of dorm rules and procedures of use of equipment. 
  • Housekeeping: Maintaining of the dormitory rooms and common areas of the dormitory facility, including, washing of soiled linens and other dormitory laundry. Before and after guests stays, cleaning of restrooms, dorm rooms, kitchen, appliances, laundry room and all common areas that guests will be using while staying in the dorms. During times when guests are in the dorms, maintain tidiness of common areas, laundry rooms, kitchen, etc. 
  • Maintenance: Monitor dorm rooms and ensure that all dormitory appliances and equipment are in working condition and coordinate equipment needs for guests prior to guests' arrival. Report and coordinate any repair and maintenance issues in the dormitory with your supervisor and facility staff. Complete basic repairs such as replacement of light bulbs, basic plumbing, minor building repairs, clearing debris on walkways around the dormitories, and other general building and landscaping repairs and/or maintenance. 
  • Security: Perform routine daily campus security checks of buildings and adjacent parking lots on business days. Ensure all dormitory building exterior doors and windows are secured at the end of the business day. Check any gates and campus entrances. Set dormitory building alarms when appropriate. Call police services if necessary. Keep a daily security log of unsecured doors/windows and report security issues to supervisor when appropriate. 

 

Qualifications  

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following: 

Must Have:  

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact and work with all levels of the organization, including staff, volunteers, donors and guests. 
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively while maintaining organization 
  • Ability to work with people with disabilities and dogs 
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) 
  • Ability to maintain good boundaries with dormitory guests/residents 
  • Ability to problem solve and complete basic housekeeping and maintenance 

Nice to Have: 

  • Previous customer service or hospitality experience preferred 

 

Compensation 

  • Salary: $16 per hour

The base salary range above represents the low and high of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
