We seek eager individuals to join our Wonderful Food & Beverage team. The ideal candidates will be trained professionals who can provide top-level
service, to match the cuisine level and product quality we serve. We are looking for individuals who communicate well, are dependable, and enthusiastic. The candidates will have a passion for food and beverage equally, and understand how to read a guest properly to ensure quality service, leaving a lasting impression and memorable experience.
 

Must be open to working AM shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet guests warmly and promptly.
  • Present menus, explain and actively promote daily specials, and answer questions about food and beverage offerings.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately, upselling when appropriate, and making recommendations based on guest preferences and any dietary restrictions.
  • Builds rapport with customers to facilitate a memorable dining experience and boost restaurant sales, staying current with each seasonal menu.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of the menu and wine list, always aiming to memorize the menu.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order delivery by inputting information correctly into Micros, and communicating effectively with kitchen and bar staff about any requests or notes.
  • Take all necessary steps to ensure appropriate timing and steps of service. 
  • Maintain a clean and inviting dining area by clearing plates and all serving areas.
  • Check-in with guests regularly to ensure satisfaction and promptly address any concerns.
  • Report any guest complaints immediately to the Manager/ Supervisor.
  • Process payments promptly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide a seamless dining experience for all guests.
  • Practice and promote teamwork by assisting fellow servers, back servers, and colleagues whenever necessary and when time is available during service.
  • Ensure all allergy procedures are followed in the event of a guest allergy, be prepared to respond to questions about ingredients and ask questions to ensure understanding the details of any ingredient restrictions.
  • Carry out daily side work assignments without exception.
  • Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to New York City Health Department standards and regulations
  • Ensure mise en place is always ready to facilitate guest service.

  • Work effectively and efficiently while maintaining high levels of service during periods of heavy volume of service and increased pressure. 
  • Communicate consistently and accurately with other departments of the hotel. 
  • Promote other Firmdale Hotels and restaurants

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS;

  • Be able to stand for a complete 8-hour shift, 5 days a week. 
  • Ability to read, review, enter, and retrieve information from, and into a Point of Sale System, preferably Micros. 
  • Able to use a computer keyboard and mouse and telephone system. 
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbal and use systems to document activities.
  • Visual acuity to see restaurant menus and Micros screens, take customer orders, review customer bills and smoothly navigate dining room, kitchen, and other restaurant areas.
  • Ability to balance dishes, bend, stoop, and reach to place and retrieve plates, glassware and other serving items.
  • Can multitask with a keen sense of attention to detail to make certain tables are served and bussed properly. 
  • Demonstrates the basics of polishing, marking, spot-checking, and crumbing tables.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that can include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION;

  • 2+ years of experience as a restaurant server in a fine dining environment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing using systems to update room status. 
  • A demonstrated passion for and strong knowledge of food and beverage (wine and champagne knowledge a plus).
  • Experience upselling a product.
  • Must understand how to use a POS program such as Micros, Aloha, or POSitouch.
