Join the Sunwapta hospitality team and take on a key leadership role in delivering outstanding dining experiences for our guests. As Sous Chef, you will oversee the night line, managing the preparation and execution of dinner menu items and daily specials. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, you’ll ensure the kitchen is ready for service, adhering to recipe standards, portion control, and food safety protocols, while maintaining the timely delivery of high-quality, plated dishes.


As a vital part of the team, you’ll play a significant role in shaping guests’ impressions of their time at Sunwapta. A positive attitude and leading by example are essential, as is a strong interest in training and motivating staff to ensure the kitchen operates smoothly. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the night line for dinner service and ensuring readiness before service begins.
  • Maintaining communication with the Executive Chef regarding staff needs for training, motivation, and development.
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety standards, portion control, and recipe guidelines.
  • Addressing and resolving any issues related to staff behavior or performance within the kitchen.
  • Assisting with staff housing situations that involve kitchen team members.
  • Coordinating with the maintenance supervisor to ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained.


The ideal candidate will be committed to a career in the restaurant industry, eager to learn the dynamics of managing a successful establishment, and passionate about fine dining. Success in this role requires:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A deep understanding of how operational data enhances the guest experience.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset and the ability to lead by example, both on and off shift.


Compensation:

  • Wage: $24-26/hr
  • Staff accommodation is available for employees over the age of 18 at $4.41 per day.
  • Bonus: If contract is completed you will receive your rent back.
  • Referral Bonus: $500 if both yours and your referrals contract are completed.
