Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Underwater Robotics Mentor
(As Soon as Possible- meeting weekly through June 2026)

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a mentor for our ROV (Underwater Robotics) team because of tremendous growth in student interest. This year�s participants are a diverse group of mostly young women. ROV is a hands-on mentoring opportunity where you will work with Upper School students in engineering a robot and do a presentation for the regional MATE ROV competition in May. Program initiatives are supported by faculty and staff as well.

This position averages 5-10 hours per week during the competition season.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee 1-2 work sessions per week and a competition event held at the end of April - with the possibility of an international competition sometime over the summer.
  • Mentor and guide students through the process of researching, designing, building, programming, testing and driving an ROV in preparation for use in the MATE ROV competitions.
  • Help students to give a presentation at the competition about the team�s accomplishments, process and journey.
  • Other related activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Affinity and enthusiasm to work with adolescents.
  • Ability to communicate with Upper School students and adult mentors, as well as parents and administration.
  • Experience with electronic systems and/or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate, model and guide students through the engineering process.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills with student team members and adult mentors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Substantial programming experience with either Arduino IDE, C++, or Python.
  • Substantial CAD experience.
  • 3D printing, laser cutting, and part fabrication experience.
  • Experience building robots.

Compensation:

$30/hour for a maximum of 100 hours; this position is not eligible for benefits
