Pastry Chef

Job Summary:
Do you have a passion for creating sweet and savory desserts? Cotton Collection-Northern Michigan is seeking an inspired and talented Pastry Chef to helm the production of baked goods and desserts for our hotels and restaurants. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in pastry making, and able to develop new and tasty recipes for our menus, while promoting high-quality craftsmanship and using only the freshest ingredients. Candidates with experience in professional kitchens, as well as those who want to grow their passion for baking, will be considered.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create and prepare a diverse range of high-quality bread, pastries, cakes, and desserts.
- Develop and execute creative, innovative pastries and desserts to enhance menus and appeal to customers.
- Meet with clients to discuss custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions, such as weddings and birthdays.
- Identify staffing needs, and supervise and train new pastry assistants and bakers when necessary
- Schedule culinary team members to plan and coordinate daily production schedules.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.
- Maintain inventory of baking ingredients and supplies, and place orders as needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends and new techniques in baking, incorporating them into menu development and production.
- Maintain a clean and organized bakery area, including equipment, utensils, and workstations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a pastry chef, baker or related role.
- Extensive knowledge of baking and pastry-making techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality standards.
- In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles and food preparation standards
- Strong leadership skills and an ability to provide clear instructions to other members of the pastry staff
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for teamwork.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary.
- Formal culinary education strongly preferred.
