Mile Marker One Restaurant - Waterfront Dining is looking for an experienced and customer-focused Lead Host/Hostess to join our team. 
 
Mile Marker One is a restaurant serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and is open year-round.  We're set on a beautiful marina.    We have indoor dining and igloo dining.  In the late spring, the Bridge Deck opens for a beautiful outdoor deck experience.  The servers and bartenders are dedicated to making sure every guest has a wonderful time.  We have live music sometimes with dinner.  Wine tasting dinners and more.  Currently we are open 5 days a week, but in the late spring we open 7 days a week.  Mile Marker One is a fun friendly restaurant featuring amazing scallops, oysters, seafood and more!  Everything from our burger to our lobster roll is incredibly delicious.  In the Summer and Fall, we are very fast paced.  In the Winter and Spring, we feature amazing food and wine pairing dinners, tequila dinners, and more.  We host corporate events, rehearsal dinners, private and semi-private dining both in our restaurant and event space.
 
We are attached to a hotel as well with an indoor heated pool and jacuzzi.
 
Lead Host/Hostess
This position is Part Time/Seasonal, Weekends and Holidays

Skills: 
At least three years of experience in the hospitality industry
Previous experience in a leadership role within hospitality or customer service highly preferred
Excellent communication and team management skills
Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and stay composed under pressure
Friendly and approachable demeanor
Proficiency with reservation systems and restaurant management software
 
Lead Host/Hostess Qualifications & Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Additional training in hospitality management or customer service is a plus
Previous experience with Toast Restaurant System and Open Table Reservation System a plus
Position Summary:
As Lead Host/Hostess you will be responsible for overseeing the operations, scheduling, managing a team of Hosts/Hostesses and ensuring exceptional service for our guest from the moment they arrive.
Responsibilities:
  • Guest Welcome: Greet all guests with a genuine smile and welcoming attitude upon arrival.
  • Seating Management: Manage the restaurant seating chart effectively, taking into account guest preferences, party size, and server sections to ensure optimal flow and fair distribution of tables.
  • Training:  Train, supervise and schedule host/hostess team in coordination with management.
  • Waitlist Management: Accurately record guest names and party sizes on the waitlist, provide realistic estimated wait times, and keep guests informed of their status in a courteous manner.
  • Guest Escort: Assign host team member to escort guests to their assigned tables
  • Phone Etiquette: Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, taking reservations accurately, providing information about the restaurant, and answering guest inquiries.
  • Information Provider: Be knowledgeable about the restaurant's menu, hours of operation, special events, and any other relevant information to assist guests.
  • Liaison: Act as a communication hub between guests, servers, and management, relaying information efficiently.
  • Guest Flow: Monitor and manage guest flow to optimize table turnover
  • Maintaining the Host Stand: Keep the host stand clean, organized, and well-stocked with menus, reservation books, and other necessary materials.
  • Guest Farewell: Thank guests sincerely as they depart and invite them to return.
  • Assisting Staff: Assist servers and bussers with tasks such as clearing and setting tables when needed to ensure efficient service. 
  • Shift Auditor: Make sure all take out/delivery slips are closed at end of shift, close out register and give end of shift documents to manager on duty.  Make sure all team members have punched in and out properly. See that all side work has been done prior to end of shift. 
  • Observational Awareness: Monitor the dining room for open tables and potential guest needs.
  • Problem Solving: Address guest inquiries and minor concerns with professionalism and report escalated issues to management when necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Host/Hostess in a busy restaurant environment preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a warm and welcoming personality.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.  
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Excellent phone etiquette.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of restaurant operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with reservation systems (e.g., OpenTable) is a plus.
  • A positive and team-oriented attitude.
