Gardener

To support the Gardens department in the day-to-day upkeep of the Lodge grounds. Responsible for the general maintenance of the gardens, plants and lawns at the Lodge and maintain the beautification of the lawns and gardens to attract guests to the lodges lush and green surroundings.

ORGANISATIONAL POSITIONING:

• Department: Gardens • Reporting to: Gardens Manager • Location: Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:

 • 1 years’ experience in a 4/5* Lodge / Hotel environment in Gardens

 • Excellent command of the English language with verbal communication skills

 • Must be able to work flexible hours including public holidays, early and late shifts

 • Presentable and well-mannered • Self-motivated, Enthusiastic, physical fit to perform manual labour

 • Able to work in all weather conditions and able to use machinery, lawn mower, trimmers, brush cutter, hedge cutters, chainsaw etc

KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

 • Ensure all work areas are clean and tidy at all times

 • To ensure soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting is completed as per Red Carnation Hotel’s standards. • Report equipment malfunctions to maintenance as and when noticed

 • General equipment maintenance

 • To be aware of Health and Safety requirements noting that all duties must be carried out to comply with current Health & Safety at Work

 • To ensure all equipment and machinery are stored securely and clean after use

 • Plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns

 • Maintain gardens by naturally fertilising, trimming and making sure that plants are receiving adequate water

 • Prune trees and hedges in ways that help the plants' health, are safe and look good

 • Maintain lawn and grass areas using machinery, natural fertilisers

 • To keep the gardens and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times

 • Maintenance including pathways, pond, steps, walls etc.

 • Keep the tool shed / storeroom clean and tidy
