Position: Groom
Department: Livery/Kates Mountain Adventures
Job Description: Horse Groom – Provide Horseback Rides & Carriage Rides while providing history & facts about The Resort to our guests. Grooms also provide daily maintenance and caretaking for the horses under their supervision. Their duties are to bathe and brush each horse, clean, harness/tack, and provide basic first aid to horses, such as bandaging small scrapes and cuts. In addition to grooming tasks, the responsibilities of a horse groom include mucking out each stall, helping with stable maintenance, and preparing and distributing feed at a 30-stall barn.
Primary Responsibilities: (guest interaction, ordering responsibilities, clean up duties, clerical responsibilities, etc.)
· Perform daily physical and psychological inspection of all horses, reporting abnormal physical appearance or unusual behavior to the manager.
· Lead horseback rides and/or drive carriage/sleigh for narrating guided trips while.
· Perform first aid and health maintenance duties on horses, such as daily leg maintenance duties involving rubbing and bandaging tendons and hoof inspection.
· Perform duties involving feed additives/supplements and medicated feed supplements.
· Perform duties that may require knowledge of and experience with different types of farm machinery.
· Perform duties which may involve interaction with guests & team members requiring a degree of communication skills and professional decorum.
· Work daily with horses and guests in a safe manner.
· Assists with Kates Mountain Retail
· Harness/Tack and untack horses for daily rides.
· Clean the barn stalls, alleyways, water buckets, tack, equipment, etc.
· Have extensive knowledge of The Greenbrier and its history.
· Have good communication with Manager.
· Teamwork abilities
· Horse training
· Daily cleaning of stalls, and periodic stripping/bedding of stalls, as well as feeding and watering of horses in the barns and fields.
· Sweeping, dusting, cleaning of all areas, including public areas, tack rooms, offices, restroom.
· Grooming of horses, including daily routine grooming.

Past Work Experience Requirements: (Type of work, number of years required, equivalent experience, etc.)
· Minimum 5 years experience riding and working with horses.
Educational Requirements: (Degree/Certification, highest required/preferred, field of study)
Communication Skills Requirements: (Verbal: phone, in-person, group; Written: memos, documents)
· Excellent verbal communication skills and guest interaction
Technical Requirements:
· Drivers License
· Knowledge of tack and harness
· Ability to operate farm equipment.
