Job Description

Join the dynamic world of horse racing as part of our starting gate crew. As an Assistant Starter, you will play a critical role in race day operations, working directly with horses and ensuring the integrity of each race start.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Guide and position horses into their assigned starting gates with precision and care.
  • Coordinate and oversee horse schooling sessions to improve their starting gate performance.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive list of horses requiring additional starting gate practice.
  • Ensure the safety of both horses and personnel during starting procedures.
  • Collaborate with the starting gate team to maintain efficient and fair race starts.
  • Adhere to all racing regulations and safety protocols.

 

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the Assistant Starter position must meet the following requirements:

 

  • Minimum age of {AGE} years old, in compliance with legal working age regulations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in horse handling, with a deep understanding of equine behavior
  • Prior experience with starting gates is preferred; however, candidates with a strong willingness to learn and adapt quickly will be considered
  • Leadership qualities and excellent communication skills, as the role involves directing both human team members and horses
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as climbing, bending, and reaching, with the ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Commitment to obtaining all necessary licenses and certifications as required by the racing authority (assistance will be provided in this process)
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and provide clear, professional instructions to colleagues and stakeholders
