Job Description

Join the dynamic world of horse racing as an integral member of our starting gate crew. As our Assistant Starter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of race day operations and the proper training of our equine athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Guide and position horses into their starting gates with precision and care, ensuring both equine and human safety.
• Coordinate and oversee horse schooling sessions, focusing on efficiency and effectiveness in starting gate training.
• Maintain and update a comprehensive list of horses requiring additional starting gate practice, ensuring targeted training for challenging cases.
• Collaborate with the starting gate team to implement best practices and maintain the highest standards of professionalism in race day operations.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure the well-being of horses and personnel.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the Assistant Starter position should meet the following requirements:

• Minimum age of 21 years old
• Demonstrated proficiency in horse handling and equine behavior management
• Prior experience with starting gate operations is preferred; however, candidates with a strong willingness to learn will be considered
• Leadership qualities and excellent communication skills for directing both human staff and equine athletes
• Physical agility and stamina to perform duties such as climbing, bending, and reaching in various weather conditions
• Willingness to obtain necessary licenses and certifications as required by the position (assistance will be provided)
• Ability to work collaboratively within the horse racing community and provide clear, professional directions
