We are an artisan, small batch coffee roaster located just outside of Boston, MA. We sell our roasted to order coffee both online to consumers worldwide and to cafes, restaurants and major grocery retailers in the US and Canada. We are a small company looking to grow our business across all channels—wholesale, retail cafés and online.

Responsibilities

At our café/restaurant, the Assistant Café Manager is at the center of the guests’ hospitality experience and our team’s performance. Our Assistant Café Manager creates a warm, welcoming environment for the guests and staff. The Assistant Café Manager is responsible for controlling financial costs and working with the team to deliver on expectations set by senior management (e.g., General Manager, COO, CEO, CFO). Responsibilities in summary include:

Managing and directing the daily operations of the cafe, including selection, development, and performance management of all employees, including management of front- and back-of-house.

Constantly assessing opportunities to increase sales through exciting new coffee drinks, food offerings, and retail promotions. Includes outreach to local businesses and organizations to expand the reach to new potential customers.

Managing the day-to-day operational and financial activities to optimize profits and ensure that guests are satisfied with their beverage and dining experience.

Overseeing and coordinating the planning, organizing, training, and leadership necessary to achieve stated objectives in sales, costs, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, beverage and food quality, cleanliness, and sanitation.

Understands and completely supports all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and training programs.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Resolve day-to-day issues such as opening & closing tasks.
  • Resolve customers’ questions and grievances in a professional manner.
  • Smooth out problems within the workplace.
  • Address employee and customer concerns.
  • Liaise between managers, customers, and employees. Bridge the gap between upper management and staff.
  • Provide direction and supervision to staff.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the café (daily/weekly tasks).
  • Keep the maintenance log up to date and accurate.
  • Keep a detailed record of attendance, and follow up on tardiness.
  • Enforce the dress code and other store policies listed in the employee handbook.
  • Fill in for the General Manager (GM) in times of absence or vacation. May be asked to assist with other cafés as needed.
  • Maintain inventory levels and track inventory.
  • Place orders with vendors and headquarters, including coffee orders, Imperial orders, and Sid Wainer orders.
  • Train and mentor new staff members.
  • Ensure weekly classes for the public are organized on time.
  • Coordinate communication between the front and back of the house staff.
  • To be successful in this role, you should be familiar with restaurant operations and understand what makes great customer service.
  • Be available to work within hours of operation, including weekends and holidays if needed.

 

Compensation

reasonable and good-faith salary range is $57,000 to $62,000 per year
