Scope of Position
The General Cashier is primarily responsible for preparing the hotel's daily bank deposits, managing all house funds, and issuing and auditing all hotel banks in accordance with established hotel policies and procedures.
Position Requirements
- 2 years' experience as a General Cashier or accounting related position in a large-scale hotel, preferred.
- Experience working with hotel operating systems.
- Strong understanding of cash handling procedures and internal controls.
- Must have competent computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and reconcile the hotel's daily bank deposits in accordance with established financial procedures.
- Collect, count, verify, and deposit all cash, checks, and other forms of payment received by the hotel.
- Retrieves remittance envelopes of Front Office, Food and Beverage and Valet cashiers from deposit vault and verify totals.
- Performs bank audits at random on a monthly basis.
- Perform a daily count of the main house bank and document the results.
- Provide monetary change to Associates with house banks.
- Issue due backs to hotel cashiers as required.
- Processes petty cash, petty cash disbursements according to established guidelines.
- Prepare and maintain Over/Short reports by cashier on a daily basis.
- Maintain current house bank agreements.
- Issue cashier safety deposit boxes for bank safekeeping, as required.
- Prepare and maintain a log on all issued house banks.
- Support the Accounting Department with other duties required by management.
Education
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly, correctly, and in a way that allows one to solve work-related issues.
- Experience using computers and software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
Physical Requirements
- On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen.
- Intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding the desk.
- Use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis.
- Must be physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 50 pounds.
- Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
